COVID-19 – Reminder on Employment Act
Reference is made to our circular Number 88-IIHR/CIR/2020/14 dated 11 March 2020.
Many concerns and complaints have been lodged with us by resort employees for being forced to take no pay leave and being terminated without a notice. Also the Ministry is receiving concerns from foreign employees being sent off without confirmed flights and getting stranded at the airport. Please note that no employee should be forced to take no pay leave and no foreign staff should be sent out of the resort without a confirmed flight.
Action will be taken against facilities not complying with the Employment Act.
Once again, we remind all facilities to comply with the Employment Act of Maldives (02/2008). Conformity to these laws and regulations will help attain harmony among the employees and management at this challenging time.
